Monday night, I put together the “behind the scenes” bonus chapter for the pre-release version of Daughter of the Sun. It had been a while since I had just sat down to write, and, I’ll tell you what - it felt great.
I remember during the NaNoWriMo last year when it was a struggle to get 1600 words done a day. That was probably because I did not know enough about the story and was mostly feeling my way through it. Monday night, though, I knocked out about 3500 words, and edited, in a little over 2 hours. Once I get into book 2, if I can keep that pace up, I won’t have any problems getting through the book in a speedy fashion. Let’s see–last book was 140,000 words that ended up being edited down to 118,000. We’ll call it 130,000 words at 2500 words per day. That’s 52 days. Throw weekends in there, and we’re looking at a little over 2 months for the first draft. Add a month to outline and 2 months to edit and we’ve got less than 6 months for the next book. Granted, that doesn’t include layout and formatting, etc. but still a good timeframe!
I miss writing, and I’m looking forward to getting back into the swing of things now that may day jobs are starting to work themselves out.
